Giving effectively makes your money go further

You surely want your donation to have the greatest possible impact on the cause you care about.

There is a plethora of different charities to give to. Fortunately it's possible to evaluate their impact. By choosing the charities with care, you can multiply the benefit of your donation.

How it works

  1. To start

    Pick an hour-long slot that suits you from the calendar. You'll receive a few clarifying questions by email.

  2. During the meeting

    The conversation starts from your questions and needs. If any questions remain open after the session, we can agree to look into them separately.

  3. After the meeting

    You decide for yourself what to do based on the conversation, and you make the donations yourself directly to the charities you've chosen. You can also choose to pay for the service, with instructions sent by email.

When I discovered research on effective giving, it changed how I think about donations as a tool for social change.

Since 2020, I've spent hundreds of hours reading research on the most effective giving opportunities and thinking about where my own money would do the most good. So far I've personally donated over €10,000 — I wouldn't have, if I didn't believe the money was going to the best possible use.

I want to pass on what I've learned.

I served as Executive Director of Effective Altruism Finland for three years, and I'm now studying sustainable entrepreneurship at Aalto University School of Business.

I don't receive compensation from any organization I recommend. When needed, I consult experts who research the most effective giving opportunities for different causes.

Questions and answers

I'm not sure I donate enough for this to be worth your time.

All amounts are welcome, whether you donate €200 or €20,000. The key question is usually not how much you give, but where. In global health, the best charities are up to 100 times more cost-effective than the average — so choosing a good cause increases your impact far more than giving a larger amount.

How do I know your advice is unbiased?

I don't receive compensation from any organization I recommend. I rely on publicly available research, which you're welcome to check yourself. My knowledge is based on the work of research and evaluation organizations including GiveWell, Happier Lives Institute, Giving Green, Founders Pledge, Rethink Priorities, Coefficient Giving, Giving What We Can, Power for Democracies, and Animal Charity Evaluators.

What if the conversation isn't useful to me?

Pay based on how you valued the conversation — €0 is fine too.

How is my privacy protected?

All our conversations are confidential. If I ever share information about the service (e.g. in an annual report), it's always anonymized, and only if there are enough clients that individuals can't be identified. See the privacy policy for more.

What topics do you know best?

Global poverty and health, animal welfare, and climate change. I try to be transparent about what I do and don't know, and I'll tell you honestly if an area isn't my strength.

Is this official financial advice?

No. This is a conversation about giving, not investment, tax, or legal advice. Decisions about your money are always yours to make. That said, I've thought a lot about balancing giving and saving myself, so we can discuss that too if it's relevant to you.
